BRADBURY’S HISTORY OF COCKERMOUTH

After much diligent and painstaking research, ex-school teacher and Civic Trust member J.Bernard Bradbury completed a book called “A History of Cockermouth” in 1979 and this was published at the end of 1980. A revised and updated edition was published in 1995. This work is acknowledged as the definitive history of the town, there being no other work that contains such a wealth of detail and information.
Trust member Eric Apperley completed a revision of this important book in 2006 and this was published in the December of that year.
The book is available at the price of £16.95 from the New Bookshop, Main Street, Cockermouth or direct from the Trust.
Bernard also wrote a series of booklets titled “Cockermouth in Pictures” and two booklets called “Walks around the Town” and “Walks from Cockermouth”. These booklets are available from the Tourist Information Centre and local bookshops. |
