LATEST NEWS – JULY 2008
Part of what we do in the Civic Trust Committee is to bring to the attention of the appropriate authority things that are wrong in the town e.g. untidy areas, signs obscured by trees, etc. Quite a lot of these points are brought to us by our members and we try to pass these on to the right department of the right authority for action. This isn’t as simple as it seems since it is sometimes difficult to identify who in what department in what authority is the right person to resolve the problem. The websites of the authorities can help but even then it is difficult to identify which form to fill in! Well, help is at hand. There is a website called www.fixmystreet.com which simply takes your complaint and passes it on to the right department in the right authority and progresses it. It is simple to use with the minimum of input and you know it will find the right person to respond to it. Try it.
After the success of last year’s “Heritage Open Days” we are again participating in the event this year. Bank’s Ironmongers, the Kirkgate Centre, the Eco Centre, the Masonic Hall and Double Mills Youth Hostel will all be open on one of the two days 12th and 13th September. The Belfagen Morris Dancers will be performing in support. The 2008/9 Winter Programme of lectures is now finalised and we can look forward to another season of varied and interesting talks on a large range of subjects. The first one to be held on 1st October will be about collecting data on wildlife in our area, whilst the following month we will be learning about Spadeadam and Bluestreak. How much more varied can it be?
